Artist M S Joshi Award for excellence in watercolour landscape drawing:

Founder member of Model Art Education Society and Model Art Institute – Murlidharan Sadashiv Joshi’s name is taken with great respect and proud. He is recognised in the Indian art scene as a landscape painter M. S. Joshi. In 2005, his select landscapes were displayed at Jahangir Art Gallery, in an exhibition titled ‘Masterstrokes’. This was a tribute to his incredible practice. In response to this exhibition, in 2008, Model Art Education Society has announced Artist M. s. Joshi award for landscape painting in watercolour. It is dedicated to inspire art students engaged in landscape painting from various regions of Maharashtra. Cash prize with a certificate is offered to the awardee.

PUKAR :

In 2008, alumni of Model Art Institute received a research grant worth Rs.60,000/- by PUKAR (Partner for Urban Knowledge, Action and Research). A bunch of 13 students worked together for a year to learn about parent-art student relationship and research methodology, under the close mentorship of PUKAR. The final output was a journal titled ‘Samanvay’. It was compilation of photo essays, illustrations, poems and calligraphy. Students also produced a documentary based on their conversation with psychiatrist Dr. Anand Nadkarni.

Celebration of centenary of M. S. Joshi:

Artist M. S. Joshi was closely associated with Model Art Education Society and Model Art Institute over 61 years. To commemorate his contribution, Model Art Education Society organised exhibition of his landscape paintings between 4th – 10th Dec 2012 at Nehru Centre Art Gallery, Mumbai. He maintained fine relationship with his students and colleagues. We couldn’t include entries by each one, but artworks by art teachers and colleagues R. P. Joshi and Damodar Pujare, art teacher and student of Model Art Institute- Datta Parulekar, artist Harish Raut, Padma Sahastrabuddhe, Urmila Shirur, his student from Nashik – Shivaji Tupe and his student from Chabildas high school – Prabhaka Kolte were included symbolically. Winning entries of Artist M.S. Joshi award, from 2008 – 2012, were also presented. The exhibition was inaugurated by eminent artist Prabhakar Kolte, and Prof. Mahendra Damle delivered a lecture on ‘Landscape painting tradition followed in post-independence times’.

Sand Sculpture Competition:

Students of Model Art Institute visit the beach and prepare sand sculpture in nature’s bounty. To share this incredible experience with other institutions, Model Art Education Society started organising intercollegiate competition. Students from art colleges of Mumbai and Mumbai suburbs are invited to participate in the competition. The participants’ entries are judged by invited sculptor, followed by prize distribution ceremony. Participants get the opportunity to converse with the jury.

Diamond Jubilee 2015:

On 18th April 2015, Model Art Institution celebrated their diamond jubilee. On this occasion, alumni were invited for the celebration at Chabildas Highschool, Dadar. They presented classical music and dance programmes. ‘Amrut Parva’, a documentary by students was screened. Authorities of the institutes had a dialogue with students.
